Values

Mission

Our mission is to bring the Church to where it is not by recruiting, preparing, and fielding followers of Jesus who are transformed by the cross, empowered by the Spirit, and effectively prepared with intercultural educational experience, who lead by serving with global partners to transform people and communities, delighting God’s heart and extending His Kingdom!

Core Values

We Join God

We embrace identification in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection and the fullness of life in the Spirit. This Message of the Cross is central to victorious living and ministry. Therefore, our priorities are love for God, abiding in Him, and doing what He says.

(Galatians 2:20; Matthew 22:37-38; John 15:5-8; John 14:15-21; Ephesians 1:17-19)

Community With a Purpose

We fellowship, pray, and work with others. We collaborate across a wide spectrum of the Body of Christ, recognizing each one’s character and abilities to bring the greatest value to the Kingdom of God.

(John 17:20-23; Luke 10:1-2; Romans 12:4-6; Philippians 2:2-5; Psalm 133)

Faith-filled Initiative

We take joy in working and serving – giving our best efforts – to support God’s work with discipline, creativity, and excellence as an act of worship; while trusting the Holy Spirit for exceptional lasting results.

(Nehemiah 4:6, 14; Ephesians 6:7-8; Colossians 3:23-24; Hebrews 11:6)

Investing in People

We invest in equipping mature disciples of Christ Jesus who are trained in the context of authentic spiritual community with the knowledge, skills, and vision to effectively fulfill the Great Commission.

(Matthew 5:3-10; Romans 8:29-30; Ephesians 4:15-16; Colossians 1:28-29; II Peter 1:5-8; Rom 1:11-12)

Transformation of Lives

We are intent on reaching, rescuing, and restoring people into relationship with God, and establishing gatherings of followers of Jesus for sustainable holistic Kingdom impact in families, communities, and to the world. (Matthew 22:18-20, 38; Luke 11:2; Revelation 7:9)

Statement of Faith

WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the only inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.

WE BELIEVE that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.

WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God, that he was tempted by Satan and fell, and that all following Adam have sinned and are sinful; that repentance toward God, faith in Jesus Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary for salvation.

WE BELIEVE that followers of Jesus Christ are called to sanctification through identification with Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection.

WE BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling, empowering, and gifts the Christian is enabled to live a life of godliness and effective service.

WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved to the resurrection of life and the lost to the resurrection of damnation.

WE BELIEVE that all followers of Jesus are to be committed to the fulfilling of the Great Commission, as found in Mt. 28:18-20, and to be involved in making it possible for the Gospel to be preached to all the peoples of the world.

Lifestyle Statement

The overarching objective of Bethany College of Missions is to see students grow in spiritual maturity, personal

responsibility, and knowledge of God, as revealed in His Word and by His Spirit, in order to become effective ministers of the Gospel. Therefore, Bethany seeks to live by the following Biblical guidelines:

  • the desire to glorify God in all things (1 Cor. 10:31-32a)
  • a concern for the feelings and sensitivities of others – showing selflessness (1 Cor. 10:32)
  • a commitment to encourage one another and build each other up in the Lord (I Thes. 5:11)
  • a commitment to put off one’s old way of life and put on the new (Eph. 4:22-24)
  • a refusal to be shaped by the value system of this world (Rom. 12:2)
  • a desire to act in ways that reflect maturity (Heb 5:14)
  • the understanding and practice of submission to leadership (Heb. 13:17)

Bethany has established certain guidelines to assist students in personal development. However, while rules are helpful in turning away from destructive behavior and attitudes and establishing new positive habits, the college does not desire to foster a campus environment of “NO.” This only encourages blind legalism and does not truly develop godly maturity.

Instead, Bethany encourages students to establish their life in God so they might be empowered to say, “YES”… Yes to God’s guidance, will, plans, and purposes. This freedom is learned by establishing habits of knowing and obeying His Word, waiting on Him, listening to Him, learning to pray and worship, and seeking accountability in the body of Christ.
