Frequently Asked Questions
What is Online Learning?
Online Learning brings together multiple technologies to facilitate the unique opportunity of learning in a global classroom from the comfort of your own home. No longer do you have to quit your job, move your family, or uproot your entire way of life to get the training and degree you need. From anywhere in the world where you have internet access you can further your educational and vocational goals.
Online Learning also provides the flexibility of studying when it works for your schedule. You’ll connect with fellow students from around the globe, interacting with each other and with instructors in both real and virtual time. At any given moment, in any location, a student can log into their classroom and participate in this distinctive learning experience.
Bethany Center for Graduate Studies is powered by Moodle – the world’s leading e-learning platform. This easy to learn, easy to use virtual classroom makes your program of study a great experience!
Can I afford a Master’s Degree?
Bethany’s passion is equipping competent, Christ-like missionaries, mission educators, and mission leaders, without prohibitive tuition rates. We keep our costs at a minimum to help you get to the field and stay on the field without graduate education debt. Our programs are about 1/3rd the cost of other graduate level programs. At $150 per credit hour, student tuition remains under $5,500 to complete your M.A. degree program. (Additional technology fees, online library fees and textbook costs apply. See the Financial Info link for more details). Scholarship are available to international students.
How long will it take me to earn my Master’s Degree?
Bethany’s programs are designed for the adult learner who is actively engaged in cross-cultural ministry. Because cross-cultural ministry professionals have many responsibilities such as family, ministry, support-raising, and travel, we recommend that students enroll in one course per term. The student who enrolls in one course per term would complete twelve courses (36 credit hours) in 30 months (2 1/2 years). Students who have more time for study may increase their course load to two or three courses per term to complete their degree more quickly.
How are the courses structured?
Each three-credit course is offered in an 8-week online module. Lectures, assignments, and interactive forums are completed on the web at our graduate studies portal powered by Moodle—one of the world’s leading online educational platforms. Courses are designed to fit the busy schedules of adult learners, allowing flexibility in study schedules and online forums. Students should expect to give a minimum of ten (10) hours per week to course work.
What if I work in a restricted-access country where security is important?
The security of our students is one of our top priorities. Missionaries who work in sensitive security contexts can be confident in the steps we have taken to make Bethany Center for Graduate Studies a secure learning environment. In addition to other security measures, our online classroom uses a non-descript URL and is password protected and SSL-encrypted.
When can I enroll?
We offer 5 convenient starting dates each year at the beginning of each new term. Enrollment is open to new students prior to each term. New terms begin in January, March, May, August, and October. Apply online anytime.
