Extra Curricular

BCOM students have a full school schedule, but there's always time to relax and have fun!

Off-Campus

The Minneapolis/St Paul area is brimming with things to do and is one of the coolest urban areas in the country. The cities are built on each side of the Mississippi River and are known for being green and wooded and for having lakes, streams, and ponds around every corner! There are times in the summer and fall, when it's hard to see cities and suburbs among all the trees!

If you like music, you'll find every variety here with settings ranging from several large scale concert venues and free symphony concerts in the park to Blues Festivals and hip hop at one of the nations largest Christian nightclubs, Club 3 Degrees. You can see pro sports in both of the Twin Cities, with St Paul boasting one of the top arenas in the country, the Excel Energy Center. There are Broadway plays, off-Broadway productions, urban drama, and children's theater. The lakes, parks, and walking, hiking and bike trails are second to none, and you can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats on all of the major lakes. There are farm museums, fur trade museums, art museums, science museums, ethnic museums, and children's museums, to name a few. If you like history, visit one of the many historical buildings and sites.

You want shopping? The Twin Cities built the first indoor mall - Southdale, in Edina, which just celebrated it's 50th anniversary; and of course, is home to the Mall of America! We also have tons of outlet shopping, an IKEA, an REI with a 55-ft climbing wall, and the largest Target in the country. And of course, there is the Minnesota Zoo, the Minnesota Arboretum, the Como Park Zoo, Valleyfair amusement park, and the list goes on and on.

Bloomington, Minnesota is only minutes from Minneapolis, the Mall of America, and the international airport. One third of Bloomington is made up of parks! We have many nature trails, snoeshowing and hiking, swimming, skiing and snowboarding just down the road from our campus. Bloomington has plenty of businesses, restaurants, and shopping, making it a good place to find part-time employment. We have a country club and a nursing home within 2 miles of the college, as well as a mini golf range and city park with playing fields - again, great for jobs.

On-Campus

Students on campus can ride bikes or walk on our outdoor trail. They can play soccer, football and baseball on our huge playing fields, meet for a game of tennis on our lighted courts, take their kids to one of our two playgrounds, or go to the gym for a racquetball match, to play basketball or use the fitness room. We do have intramural tournaments throughout the year in different sports to create some organized fun.

We have a student center called the Oasis, used to hang out, check e-mail, play a game, or just relax. Snacks are served in the evenings and on weekends.

The Bethany House of Prayer (in the prayer room) is open 24/7, so students have a peaceful, worshipful place to pray, do homework, do devotions, or intercede. If you are musical we are always looking for instrumentalists, vocalists, and technicians to lead live worship and prayer watches. We also have many opportunities to serve on worship teams that lead during chapels and special events. If you have a heart to learn more about seeking God in the place of prayer, the opportunities to grow are endless. We have full-time and volunteer staff who focus on helping you develop this area of your life in the Bethany House of Prayer.

We want our students to have freedom to develop new clubs and activities. If you have a passion for photography, the arts, drama, language, intercessory prayer for the nations, business, etc. etc. there are many avenues for sharing this with the student body and starting interest groups, prayer times, and events.
