Intern Sites

When we set up field learning sites for Global Internship we first look for seasoned BCOM alumni missionaries who are willing to supervise a group of 6 - 12 study abroad interns and oversee the entire learning experience. We also recruit alumni mentors who are willing to go with the interns to the field as personal advisors and team leaders. In addition, the location needs to be in a place where students will receive exposure to particular religious and cultural groups or a wide variety of groups; very specific or very diverse ministry opportunities; and a variety of locations around the world.

We are growing our Global Internship program and as our enrollment increases, the number of sites around the world will increase. We are already preparing to launch sites several years from now.

We recognize that most of our Global Interns will not end up working long term in the country of their internship. This is not our goal in selecting the sites we have. Instead, our desire is that students develop transferable skills (language learning, cultural observation and adaptation, ministry skills etc) that God can use anywhere in the future.

Each incoming class has their choice of 2 – 4 Global Internship field learning sites. These options rotate depending on the availability of the field leaders on the site and on the number of students in each incoming class.

Current students are choosing between sites in Central America, east Africa, and two sites in Asia. A site in Europe is due to be launched within the next year. Due to the sensitive nature of some of these locations and the ministry being done there, we are not able to give detailed descriptions in print, but if you’re interested in knowing more about the options, feel free to contact the Admissions office for more information.
